Do you have a document that you’re going to use overseas? A Power of Attorney? A Personal Statement? An Affidavit? A Police Clearance Certificate? An FBI background check certificate? Last Will and Testament? Certificate of Birth? Marriage Certificate? Judgment of Divorce? By-Laws or any other document? A Divorce Certificate?

Have you been asked by foreign authorities to obtain an Apostille on it, but you’ve never heard the word before?
No problem!

Let’s answer the question WHAT IS APOSTILLE, and decipher an Apostille now in 5 easy steps!

Wht is apostille?1. Apostille is a French word which means a certification. It is issued and accepted by countries, which are the parties to the Hague (Apostille) Convention of 1961.

2. Apostille certifies the authenticity (validity) of the signature of a Notary Public, who notarized your signature, or the issuing authority, the capacity in which the signer was acting. Apostille also certifies the identity of any stamp or seal attached to the document. This provides countries with a means of verifying documents issued by a local authority in another country.

3. Depending on document type, Apostille and legalization procedure may vary. Some documents can be apostilled in the local office of the U.S. Department of State while other documents, such as FBI Background Check is legalized by the U.S. Department of State Authentications Office.

4. If you will be presenting your vital record to a private or a government agency in another country, you should contact the consulate of that country to determine what the requirements are to have your record accepted. You may need an Apostille or authentication of the record.

5. You may also be required to have the Apostille and supporting documents translated into the language of the country where you intend to use your document.
Easy! Is not it?

It’s good that you explained to us that an apostille is used to certify the identity of any stamp or seal attached to the document, which is often used for documents needed to be submitted in other countries. I imagine if you’re planning to expand your business in other countries, it would help to have an apostille verify the authenticity of your documents to ensure the process runs smoothly. I’ll take note of this and look for online apostille services I might consider calling in the future.
